Gede Gede
LYNDSEY HEYLIGER, Gede Gede, 2024, Acrylic, 8 × 10 in
Gede Gede is inspired by the Haitian lwa Agwé, the King of the Sea who commands the fish and aquatic plants. I have portrayed him in a relaxed state. The colors I chose are meant to represent the sea coral, and the quick, sketch-like motions evoke the movement of the ocean.
Inspired by my Intro to Religion course, I explore the spiritual realm of Haitian Vodou, capturing the essence of Ap Tan Agwé and Gede Gede. With each piece, I remain committed to expressing my life through art, hoping to inspire others to do the same.
