Nikki's Rest
DAY BRIERRE, Nikki's Rest, 2024, Glazed earthenware, nichrome wire, 8 × 9 × 5 in
Nikki's Rest is a vessel depicting the eroticism found in the intimate act of resting.
My work aims to portray the mythical facets of Black female identity by engaging in an ongoing dialogue between painting and ceramics. I also focus on the symbolic act of repair, rupturing, and stitching narrative vessels to echo personal experiences of resilience and transformation.
In my practice, I employ a vibrant color palette, naive forms, and religious symbolism to explore the intersection of storytelling, ritual, and eco-feminist spirituality.
In my vision for the future of Haiti, the artistic community within the diaspora uses Haitian imagery and aesthetics to create new pathways of cultural reunion.
