CRISTINA MAINGRETTE

CRISTINA MAINGRETTE, La Sirene, 2024, Ink on paper-carved and hand-printed linoleum block onto mulberry paper

With La Sirene, I take you on a personal and cultural journey to explore and reclaim the story of Haitian Vodou. Growing up in Haiti, I learned that it was a taboo topic, shrouded in misunderstanding and fear. This fear reflects a broader trend of cultural erasure, where the beauty of our traditions is overshadowed by stigma.

Through my work, I aim to spark conversation and ignite curiosity about the often misunderstood world of Vodou. I hope to create a space where questions are welcomed and curiosity thrives in place of fear.
